PBIS at Ada Public School,

At Ada Public School, we are excited to implement PBIS! PBIS is a school-wide approach that helps create a positive and safe learning environment for all students. By setting clear expectations and reinforcing positive behaviors, we help students succeed both academically and socially.

What is PBIS?

PBIS is a proactive approach to teaching and encouraging positive behavior. Instead of focusing only on correcting misbehavior, PBIS highlights what students are doing right. When students know what is expected and are recognized for their efforts, they are more likely to make positive choices.

Key PBIS Terms:

• School-Wide Expectations – The common set of behaviors we teach and reinforce throughout the school. Examples might be "Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe."
• Acknowledgements & Rewards – Recognizing students for following expectations with praise, incentives, or celebrations.
• Behavior Matrix – A chart that outlines what our school expectations look like in different areas, such as the classroom, hallway, and cafeteria.
• Tiered Support – A system that provides different levels of support for students based on their needs.
• Restorative Practices – Strategies that help students take responsibility for their actions and repair relationships when conflicts arise.

How Families Can Support PBIS:

1. Talk About School Expectations – Ask your child about the school-wide expectations and discuss how they can apply at home and in the community.
2. Encourage Positive Behavior – Recognize and praise your child when they demonstrate positive behaviors, just like we do at school.
3. Communicate with Teachers – Stay connected with your child’s teacher to understand how PBIS is working and how you can reinforce it at home.
